Thomas Futrell grew up about one-and-a-half miles NW of Potecasi in Northampton County, North Carolina, where his father, John Futrell, ran a gristmill on Paddy's Delight Creek. Thomas rendered material aid to the American troops during the Revolutionary War; his support has been recognized by both the DAR & SAR. Thomas Futrell's widow, Sarah, and their children settled on Donaldson Creek in Christian County, Kentucky, beginning in 1803.
