Richard (Pop) Harrell, 64, a resident at 1718 N. Leeds St, died at 7pm Friday at Robert Long Hospital, Indianapolis. He had been ill four weeks.
Mr. Harrell was turnkey at the Howard County jail under Howard Cherry and formerly employed by the Cleary Heating Company.
He was born inIllinois, June 15, 1888, the son of Frank and Laura (Burgess) Harrell, and came to Kokomo in 1938 from Cairo, Ill.
Surviving are the widow, Birdie, to whom he was married in 1947, and eight children, Mrs. Dessie Hawkins, Mrs. Mildred Bennett, Mrs. Opal Martin, Alfred Harrell, and Mrs. Deborah Miller, all of Kokomo; Mrs. Dorothy Bowlin, Ft. Wayne, Woodrow Harrell with the Navy in Japanand Mrs. Dick James, Indianapolis. There are 30 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He leaves also the following step-children: Ross Croft, Kokomo; Mrs. Ruth Kenley, Johnson City, Ill; George Croft, Tames, Ill; Mrs. Helen Brown, Batorn Rouge, La and William Croft with the Army in Austria.
The Body is at the Peacock Funeral Home, 414 W. Jefferson St, where the funeral will be heldat 2 pm Monday with the Rev John Balyo in charge. Buriel will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home after 11 am Sunday.
