While repairing a pasture fence at the back of his farm at Difficult, in company with his little grandson, last Saturday morning, Mr. Layton Kemp, 72 years of age, was suddenly stricken with heart trouble and expired before assistance could be secured. Mr. Kemp married Virginia Josephine Witt 49 years ago, and until recently the family circle of father, mother, 9 children 43 grandchildren had not been broken by death. The children are: County Clerk, John A. Kemp, Lon and Henry of Difficult, and the late lamented Dr. Samps Kemp; Mesdames Will Duke, Jasper Sircy and Ben Duke of Difficult; Arthur Herring of Gallatin, E. W. Jenkins of Brush Creek. Mr. Kemp was one of Smith County's most substantial and valued citizens, a peace maker in the community, a wise counsellor, fine neighbor and influential man whose labor for the right will be felt for years to come. He was an officer in the Missionary Baptist Church congregation at Difficult, with whom he had enlisted 47 years ago
