Former Fire Chief of Oswego John D. Murray, 82, a former resident of 72 E. Oneida St., Oswego, died Friday, Dec. 23, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse. Born in Oswego, he was a son of Frank and Catherine (Lacey) Murray and was the husband of the late Velma (Vincent) Murray. He had been employed for 39 years as a firefighter with the City of Oswego, serving 13 years as chief. He was a member of the American Legion, and had served as president of the New York Fire Chiefs Association. He had been a communicant of St. Paul's and St. Mary's churches. Surviving are three daughters, Phyllis Amedio of Scriba, Marcia Tobin of Oswego, and Beverly Riznik of Webster; one son, James V. Murray of Oswego; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, John, a brother, Robert (Oscar) Murray, and a grandson, Sam Amedio. Services were held Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, Inc. and from St. Mary's Church.
