Everson resident, Dwight Herschel Wiley, age 87, died at his home Saturday, December 1, 2007. He was born in Nodaway County, Missouri on Dec. 26, 1919 to Dale and Ethel (McClurg) Wiley where he spent his childhood and graduated from College High School in Maryville, MO. A Whatcom County resident for nearly 70 years, he moved with his family, following high school, to settle in the Deming area.
He met and then married Cornelia A. Scheffer of Everson on Sept. 28, 1941. In the early part of their 55 plus years of marriage, they lived in the Ferndale and Sumas areas; then settled on their family farm near Everson, where they raised five daughters.
Herschel served as a member of the Nooksack Valley School Board during his daughters' high school years. In addition of farming, he also had a successful career with the Whatcom County Road Department, retiring as General Foreman in 1982.
Herschel was a member of the Sumas Advent Christian Church
